I often get told (yes people dictate to me) that the only reason why I’m a Christian is because my parents are. Now when I hear this alarm bells go off in my head as all I think is: ‘If only you knew what God has done for me regardless of my family’. Yes my parents paved the way, however they didn’t see or even know the works God was going to do in my life. They didn’t even know if I was going to be a devout Christian or not. I believe that through sharing and telling of God’s work in your life, you glorify Him. God knows we love Him, but we need as His children to share testimonies….
28th December 1995, I was born. My mum had spent Christmas and New Year’s in the hospital that year. She would spend most of her days for the first 4 months of the year there in fact. I was born prematurely. Almost 4 months early. I was born in December when I was meant to be born late March-early-April. Every night I was in that incubator, I knew my parents didn’t loose hope. I know that God was responding to their prayers because they declared life for me in faith. Babies around me in better conditions died around me. Ones who were born later than me and had an increased chance of survival, just lost their lives. I survived.
God has a plan for my life. He hasn’t put me on this earth to just live, going day by day, not caring to get to know Him:
“For I know the plans I have for you” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” Jeremiah 29: 11
I do prosper as well. To think that someone born at 24 weeks, is living a ‘normal’ life. I have no long term medical conditions, I have a fully functional body and I achieve good grades. I am not lacking mental development of any kind, Praise be to God. I also know that my survival was a miracle because God provided the answer to my parents prayers with much more than they asked. My parents just wanted me to survive, but I was restored. They had faced the fact that I may not develop normally, but God intervened.
‘Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more then we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.’ Ephesians 3:20-21
My lack of faith caused me to never share with people. Now as I am trying to become closer to God, He is revealing ideas and concepts to me that enable me both to encourage and glorify. I will be sharing more testimonies, because that is His will.
God can do so much for you. God only needs a small opportunity to make a big impact in your life. You have to make that conscious decision to follow Him and open your heart to His Word.
